ZIMBABWE – HARARE – AIDS activist Tendai Westerhoff has been ordered to get out of the Mt Pleasant matrimonial home which has been sold by her ex-husband.
The eviction came after several months of strong protests by Tendai, who complained that she would be without basic services, have no means of income and lose access to medical treatment if she moved to a new location.
Judge president Rita Makarau okayed an eviction application to get Tendai out of the 29 Morningside Drive home last Thursday she used to share with her soccer-coach husband Clemens Westerhoff – whom she claims infected her with HIV.
The couple married in 1999 and divorced in 2004 in a sensational divorce that grabbed headlines.
Tendai has been given 30 days by the High Court to vacate the home, which has been bought by Alspite Investments.
The court order said the home had been sold and the AIDS activist had no right to continue residing there.
Human rights groups charged that the eviction amounted to segregation. The court says Tendai had illegally continued to stay in the house, which was sold in 2006. Tendai was given an option to buy out her husband but failed to raise the requisite cash.
Tendai Westerhoff was married to former Warriors coach Clemens Westerhoff until they both discovered they had HIV. Tendai has since waged an extensive media campaign against her husband and her latest salvo is a book on her life with the football coach.
Her accusations in that book against Westerhoff border on libel and she has gone over the top in milking Westerhof’s name.
Se now faces homelessness and loss of comfort after a messy divorce that played out in the media with Westerhoff, who has since left Zimbabwe.

It’s public knowledge this prostitute was holding on to things that did not belong to her. After infecting Westerhoff with HIV, she goes back and claim it’s the opposite. this story has pain and misery written all over it, and its really sad. The story having been written by a lady u would have thought she would have sympathy towards Tendai’s cause or at least be impatial in her reporting, but far from it. The lady reporter has obviously chose her side and its obvious she thinks the white guy has been treated unfairly. Whatever happened to this thing they call comradeship, i won’t be suprised if she was of the opinion that the disease came from the black lady.

Quite a sorrowful state of affairs.Lets go beyond who did what to whom and why but assist the poor lady get comfort. I suggest her church(if she has one) steps in and help get her back to her feet. This lady has done quite a bit to concentious people on AIDS issues, being living testimony herself and i think it is a good thing. It is unfortunate that she wrote a tell-all book about her marital disaster but who are we to judge.

My advice guys make no fun about AIDS, none of these people picked up willingly, no one will sleep with a man or woman knowing their partner has AIDS, to all of you posting on this forum, did you not sleep with someone unprotected at one time in life without going for HIV tests, some of you by God ’s grace didnt get it and now want to sound holy on this forum.As for me, i married and only to discover my wife was HIV positive when she got pregnant, i was negative not because i was clever but by God ’s grace. To Tendai keep praying and have faith in God and stop blaming yourself or Westorf and fix your eyes on God , a miracle will happen to you. You might still be HIV positive but without symptoms and live as long as God intended you to live. Anger for Westorf is your biggest killer.Get rid of it , you cant change your history but can work on it positively. Humble yourself and submit to the Lord and start life all over again , its not too late at all Tendai.

after going through the above comments, i can only dejuice that the only commonality in them is insults. the main disease Zimbabweans as a people have is; laughing, mocking and degrading each other. its time we begin to seriously value ourselves and others. remember, what we always presume does not constitute the truth of the scenario, but a mere opinion/guess of the individual posting a comment.

They do not care even if they have to kill inorder to get something. Iyi yave Ngozi yaenda kwaMunatsi, his wife will be a widow and his children will be homeless. Douglas Munatsi knows that he stole this house from Tendai, as he paid Clemens in forex outside Zimbabwe from ABC Bank in Botswana. When Clemens came to Zimbabwe he was looked after by Tendai in her own home which the couple later sold to buy the Mt Pleasant home which was never a matrimonial home. Most of people making this rude comments do not know the exact things that happened between Tendai and Clemens. Clemens was a brutal, a womanizer, a cruel man with a big mouth. Tenda never stole money or anything from Clemens as Westerhof was not a rich guy as what most people thought. He was the most lonely person under the heavens. Soneni Dube is a woman who must feel for other women as the challenges that has affected the life of Tendai and her child are not in isolation but many women are experiencing them and up to this day there is no real justice system in this country. The high court which is supposed to be the custodian of all minors is still far from protecting the rights of children and women who are most vulnerable. Tendai must be applauded, that she made an effort for the simple reasons of safeguarding the interests of the minor child. Maybe this will call for an infecting of a new law all together. It is not a secret that Clemens Westerhof denied responsibility of the pregnancy that resulted in the child as he did not want a child with AIDS. So can we say the DNA test that proved that Clemens is the father of the child by 99.9% also lied? If so why then did Clemens Westerhof not challenge the results of the DNA test that was done on his demand. From reading Tendayi books one cannot doubt that result of that minor child was a result of emotions, mental, torture and rape that Tendai was subjected to by Clemens. Is it a crime that Tendai had three children in two failed relationships before she met Clemens? Did Clemens go into that marriage blindfolded and not knowing that Tendai was a proud mother of three beautiful children? It is not a secret that Clemens Westerhof also had two grown up children from two failed marriages besides he has so many phonication relationships before he met Tendai and does this make him a better person that Tendai? How many women out there have been in sexual relationships with more than one partner or have tried one relationship after another before they settled down? The fact that they were involved is sexual intercourse with all their lovers also makes them prostitutes as you have called Tendai. Clemens Westerhof is also a prostitutes and who said prostitutes were only women? To make matters worse Clemens sold that house and went ahead to take away even the 20% share of the child and has not paid a cent towards the maintenance of his child up to this day. Tendai also did not get even a cent from the proceeds of the sale. Clemens lawyers will now be tried at the magistrate over the same issue as the way the magistrate courts operate is different from the way cases are tried in the high court.
I have taken a personal interest in Tendai because I feel some sections are being unreasonably unfair towards her. They are discriminating her, shaming her for being a single mother, shaming her for being divorced, shaming her loosing the high court case and most importantly calling her names such as prostitute, discriminating against her because of her public HIV positive status and hating her for disclosing her status and bodly talking about how she discovered her HIV positive status which implicates Clemens Westerhof. Tendai might have lost but I salute her and still see her as a brave woman with courage many can learn from her experiences. She is my heroine. As far as I can see now this is the beginning of great things and fortunes for Tendai as she is a determined woman. In court its either you win or you lose and you cannot have both as it is just like a game of soccer one team has to win in the finals and that does not mean the winning team was the better team in the play field.
Reading the rude and bellicose comments on this article it is clear that Clemens Westerhof has finally admitted that he is HIV positive. How can he say Tendai infected him and on the other hand he denies that he is positive and he now alleges a libel against Tendai. It is Clemens Westerhof who broke Tendai`s trust after he discovered that he was HIV positive. Why raise this now almost 10 years down the line? He promised to look after Tendai and her children and that he was never going to leave her but was going to support her throughout. He blackmailed Tendai into believing that he could live with her despite the HIV positive status. It was never Tendai`s intention to go public on her HIV status after she too was tested when Clemens has already discovered that he was HIV positive. It was never Tendai`s intention to deliberately disclose Clemens Westerhof`s HIV positive status but it is because of the roughness, rudeness, violence, brutality that Clemens Westerhof subjected her to that forced her to do what she did. There is nothing to regret about and I salute Tendai. Tendai has a right to use whatever name she wants as this is her constitutional and legal right. She has earned the name Westerhof and that name did not originate from Clemens Westerhof as he too does not own it. Just to put the record straight, it is Clemens Westerhof who came to Zimbabwe and Tendai never went to Holland to bring Westerhof here to marry her. Where there no women in Holland? Clemens married Tendai because he found her to be an adorable, beautiful woman who had her three children, a good job where she worked at Puzey and Payne as a Management secretary, she had her own house, a car and all the necessary household goods. Clemens used to follow Tendai at Mufakose and even slept there in her house. Is it a crime to live in a high density surburb? It is Clemens who made Tendai to quit her job as he wanted her to stay at home and look after the family. Clemens took it for granted that because Tendai was an African black woman she was desperate for a man and could say yes to anything he said and be used like a toy. He later found out that Tendai was not a character to be pushed around and this frustrated him even more and he started to see all kinds of faults in Tendai who made him a perfect wife. Even the business that the two had started collapsed because of Clemens Westerhof` unprecedented interference and tantrums. Clemens tried hard to force Tendai to consent to his residence permit to live in Zimbabwe and she refused on the grounds that he had abandoned her during her absence and taking away almost all the household furniture, was now living with another woman, was not supporting her, was denying responsibility of the child and had already filed for a divorce. Clemens Westerhof made his own choice to divorce Tendai and to live Zimbabwe because she was too a strong woman for him. What Clemens and all of you who call Tendai spiteful name must know is that Tendai now poverty proof, depression proof and non of these things you say about her affect her in anyway because she has no time for them and does not even read or listen to them. I have good information at hand that Tendai`s double storey mansion in one of Harare`s low density suburbs where she had been building for the last four years is almost complete. Shame of you all did you really think that Tendai knowing who she is could be homeless. The future looks very bright for Tendai and I happen to bump into her this week she looks vibrant, healthy , was in great form, and charming as usual. Ha –a Ha-a Ha-a. She is even climbing up the ladder in the HIV and AIDS activism world and she now holds several influential positions. The demand for her service to help people deal with HIV are increasing and she is a darling to many.

The inaccurate article written by the highly unprofessional journalist Soneni Dube and all comments made by the so called haters of Tendai Westerhof cannot go unchallenged.
I have been following the Westerhof saga for a long time and have an insight into the whole issue involving the Mt Pleasant home that was owned jointly by Tendai and Clemens Westerhof.
From the onset the journalist got it all wrong and is ill-informed. The issues that she highlights in her malicious articles are factually incorrect as these are not the issues that Tendai challenged in court. Maybe this journalist should have first had sight of the high court order issued in June of 2004 when the Westerhofs divorce was granted. She should also have gone to the high court to see all documents summary of evidence, submissions and pleas that Tendai effected through her lawyers . This could have given her direction of where this whole saga is coming from. It is not just the fact that Tendai had to buy out Clemens in the first place as there are other issues surrounding the circumstance of how the property was sold. Tendai never disputed that the property had to be sold as that was the arrangement. Her argument was how the whole procedure was done which greatly flouted the spirit of the consent paper that both herself and Clemens signed. Clemens and her lawyers had an upper hand and they took advantage of the unstable economy to the detriment of Tendai and a minor child involved in this case. That house was sold in foreign currency and purchasers and Clemens externalized that money outside Zimbabwe because they knew very well that this was an illegal deal. This is not something new to the Westerhof property as most property sellers since 2005 had already embarked on illegal scams of selling houses in foreign currency in connivance with estate agents. The majority orperated foreign currency accounts outside Zimbabwe. Who would need a Zimdollar during the period of 2005 – 2008 when inflation was at its peak? Such things are difficult to prove in court and this is exactly the dilema that Tendai and her minor child faced. There is no way a property of the Westerhof nature in Mt Pleasant could sell for only 13 billion Zimbabwe dollars at that time in 2007 when the sale was effected. This was a well orchestrated scheme by Clemens, his lawyer, the Estate urgent and the purchasers of the property. The changing of ownership of the property was also dubiously done as the actual deed issued states that the property was sold for 30 billion Zimbabwe dollars and not 13b Zimbabwe dollars. The registrar of deeds in Harare is aware of this. In court they said it was a typographical error. The fact that judgment came out not in Tendai`s favour does not make the purchases of the property in question or Clemens Westerhof better people. This does not make Tendai the bad person either. It was merely their word against Tendai. Tendai Westerhof was within her rights to fight for her rights with lawyers who assisted her as they saw cause in her case. Many people who had sight of the full judgment could tell that even Justice Rita Makarau was touched by the plight of the child and she put down this judgment against Tendai and the child in pain as she had to do her job.
Tendai this is not the end of the world most of these people writing this rude posting are lodgers, they are jobless and have nothing to do with their time. I admire Tendai Westerhof as she is a brave woman. I guess this is not the end of her world because when GOD wants to lift someone high up he first puts the person down. I can see great things happening with Tendai’s life from now on. Tendai is a woman of dignity anyone can see that. People divorce and its normal. Many are married but they stick together in unhappy marriages and relationship dues to various reasons especially money and material things.
Tendai does not need to be educated for her to be sucessful in life. There are many celebrities and business people who have made it in life but with no education. Most Zimbabwean celebrities are poor and the case of Tendai is not in isolation. Despite the great work she has done for the country like many other people like her society does not recognize or respect her. It is high time we start supporting people like Tendai and not to laugh at them when disaster strikes as this can happen to anyone. Please can someone offer Tendai a job, or whatever help you can to her minor child. I am sure the newspapers have Tendai’s details.
I pity Clemens Westerhof for neglecting his child and for badmouthing his former wife and mother of his beautiful child. One day Clemens will look for Tendai as I believe GOD has a miraculous way of doing things. Yes the world might think its over between Tendai and Clemens but GOD can reunite these two people and this family and some people will be very embarrassed after all the bad comments they made regarding the two especially Tendai. So Clemens Westerhof was deported from Zimbabwe. This means he was caught on the wrong side of the law. If Clemens Westerhof failed to meet the critriea of getting a residence permit to stay in Zimbabwwe, he must not blame it on Tendai. Residence permits are issued, authorized , extended or declined by the Zimbabwean government and not individuals like Tendai as what some misguided people think and want conclude. Surely Tendai could not let her dear loved husband get deported from Zimbabwe, she was pregnant, was expecting a child, was now HIV positive as Clemens had infected her, after Clemens had tested positive to HIV, was running a successful business, and Clemens was living with her under the same roof and the two were happily married. Clemens since you are now a champion in winning court cases why then did you not take the Zimbabwean government to court for declining you a residence permit to live in their country? Anyone in their rightful mind would ask how does Tendyi come into this? At this point I wish to ask Clemence Westerhof a question; Why did you come to Zimbabwe in the first place? Did you come strictly because Tendai had called you? I guess she must have bought you a ticket to fly from Holland. This is important as we need englightment. Tendayi has not wronged anyone at all. People are just jealousy of her courage. After all the life of Tendai never began with Clemens Westerhof and still doe not end with him. Whoever you are pretending to be Tendai, shame of you.

My Husband Clemens Westerhof and myself are very happy together and you have no power to destroy that.

Tendayi is full of surprises, She’s now after a Flat at the Avenues from her dauther’s inheritance.
Why is she always after other people’s properties, Now its crystal clear that she’s a Gold Digger who’s always after other people’s sweat and hard work.
Rumour has it that she now reside in Kadoma,since she got kick out of Mount Pleasant home.
Women work hard for your own money and buy your own properties instead of fighting for what is not yours.
