ZIMBABWE – HARARE – Zimbabwe’s Big Brother representative Kristal Culverwel was fired from her job in England because she refused to quit smoking.
Employed as a wine taster, she was told by her employers to either quit smoking because it would compromise her tasting abilities. Well, she opted to quit the job than give up her habits.
Her mother Bev, describes her as a determined person.
“She had a job in England as a wine taster,” her mum said. “She would taste wines from place to place and also do some public relations campaigns for her employer in the wine industry.”
But her employer, who came to know about her smoking habits told her to quit smoking, but she staunchly refused.
She says: “As you probably have noticed, she is a devoted smoker and wine tasters cannot be smokers as that would interfere with their taste buds. They would not be able to discern the flavours well enough to have good judgement.”
So she decided to quit the job. The mum added: “She is not the kind of person that sways easily from what she truly is and that is why we believe she will make it in the house because of her honesty.”
Kristal is one of the front runner in the current Big Brother Africa Revolution. The vivacious beauty queen has however ticked off several people with her chain-smoking habits. But she remains in hot contention for the US$200,000 prize money.

When I stopped smoking after 10 years my appetite and sense of smell and taste improved. Smokers develop discrepancies in many of their sensory functions, mainly taste. A smoker can never taste food in the same way as non-smokers do. If you quit smoking, you will find a sudden improvement in this respect. That is one of the reasons why people gain weight (because food tastes better) when they stop smoking. As for this girl complaining about being fired..She is an idiot. A wine taster’s distinguishing attribute is their sense of taste/smell.

If she is any relation to the late Joseph Culverwell then why am I not surprised. How can you be a police office if you have kleptomania addiction or be work in the vice squad if you are addicted to sex. Nothing wrong with smoking at all.I dont smoke myself but hang around with smokers and I dont see any thing with them.There are also high quality cigars etc as long as you can afford and interested no prob.Most work places here have smoke breaks,why???Coz there appreciate smokers.Zim is still backward,coming from the stone edge.Leave those who smoke to smoke ,those who dont not too.Whats this issue all abt,just waste of time.

SA there is nothing special about smoke breaks, in zim they have tea breaks just the same thing. no one really appreciates smoking thats why they are highly taxed and no one is allowed to smoke indoors or around children so much for smoker appreciation
