ZIMBABWE – HARARE – The burly ZBC CEO Happison Muchechetere was almost in tears as the news was delivered to him.
He would not be getting a visa to travel to the UN summit in New York with President Mugabe. Old Bob left Harare Saturday for the summit. And he was told there will no special dispensation for the ZBC boss, who has led efforts to block reform in Zimbabwe.
Protestations by the war veteran that he deserved a visa fell on deaf ears as the US embassy staunchly but politely refused to give him a visa.
The trip, with lucrative perks of up to US$1000 daily, has seen intense jostling at the State broadcaster, with almost evryone at ZBC keen to go on the trip.
Muchechetere was said to be devastated after failing to secure the visa to travel to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Usually Zanu-PF officials are able to circumvent travel bans when they travel to the UN. This time though the US has decided to get tough, mainly because of ZBC’s position of undermining the GNU and preaching hate speech and propagating propaganda.
Muchechetere is said to have fumed at Acting Consul Amy Diaz, after she told the head of ZBC that he’s banned from New York.
She told Muchechetere that he was on a list of Zimbabweans considered to be blocking the transition to multi-party democracy in the country. Media watchdogs say there has been an upsurge of hate speech in state media in recent weeks.
Most of it is directed against Morgan Tsvangirai and his Movement for Democratic Change party. The prime minister says President Robert Mugabe’s spokesman George Charamba is controlling the public media and he has to go.

Your ravings and rantings will take you nowhere, all your comments are based on lies and of no effect. Imperialists always employ quislings and their running dogs to recolonise zimbabwe. Its so sad that some zimbos go to such lenths as to asslick the vampire US that survives on the blood of the down trodden. United Nations is not America. To hell with american visas for the UN.Pamberi ne minda yemadzi teteguru.
