ZIMBABWE – BULAWAYO – A BULAWAYO woman was allegedly raped while holding her husband’s back, a city magistrate said Tuesday.
This came to light during the appearance of Jericho Ncube before Bulawayo magistrate, Mr Shepherd Munjanja at the Western Commonage Magistrates Courts in Bulawayo.
Ncube whose age was not given is facing charges of rape and robbery as defined by Sections 65 and 126 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 25 September.
When he was asked about his attitude towards the charges, he indicated that he was not admitting.
Ncube said he knew the culprit and identified him as one Thembelani whom he said used to stay at his uncle’s house.
In her statement, the victim said she was walking home with her husband after disembarking from a commuter omnibus in Sizinda along Nketa Drive, when Ncube and two of his accomplices, who are at large, attacked them.
“They approached us and told us that we were thieves and took us into a maize field and ordered us to sit down. One of Ncube’s friends then took me to his colleagues where my husband was seated,” said the victim.
“He said he wanted to show me the property we had stolen.”
She said he forced her to strip naked and raped her once, before taking her back to where his accomplices who had assaulted her husband.
“Ncube then grabbed me and forced me to strip again. He then ordered me to bend and hold on to my husband’s buttocks. He came behind me and raped me once. After that he then forced me to lie next to my husband and they hit him with a stone at the back of the head and left the scene with our property,” she said.
Ms Sibekithemba Dube for the State told the court that the incident happened on 19 March, at about 8pm along a foot path, leading to the couple’s house.
She said after abusing the couple, the trio robbed them of their property worth R800 and disappeared into the night.
A report was made to the police and investigations led to Ncube’s arrest.

its such a sad story and hard to believe that some people can be so cold-hearted. they couple must be going through a tough time hey will forever fail to understand or get to terms with. hopefully the rapists will face justice coz its people like this that are pulling not only zimbabwe but the whole world down.
