ZIMBABWE – HARARE – South African gospel star Rebecca Malope will be coming to Harare for a highly-anticipated gospel concert, her spokesperson Thabo Malo of Beyond Destiny has confirmed.
The award-winning gospel star, is scheduled to perform at the Harare Gardns on October 3 to take part in a family show where she will not only sing but preach to gospel lovers.
“It’s a show worth the while. Gospel lovers should know that this kind of show do not come everyday,” Barbara Chikosi of Red Rose Entertainment said.
“The negotiations to have the gospel star come to perform in the country have been ongoing for a long period and it is with pleasure to announce that a final agreement has been reached which means that the negotiations were fruitful,” Malo said.
The show is expected to go on as scheduled and the entrance fee remains unchanged at US$20.
Malope seems to have found in religious music a way to express the hardships and yearnings of her life, attracting fans across the continent.
She is highly loved in Zimbabwe, a Christian nation where there are more peo9ple in churches on Friday nights than in pubs.
Malope grew up in the South African countryside under apartheid, and at the age of 16 moved to Johannesburg, where she lived as a beggar until her musical talent was discovered. She sampled many kinds of music, but gospel suits her best, and is the style she is now known for.
Malope has a lovely, full, rich, powerful voice which she uses to great effect in these beautiful, sometimes overwhelmingly emotional songs.
