ZIMBABWE – HARARE – Zimbabwean Hollywood actress Thandie Newton is still angry with her first boyfriend, and opened her heart this week to the depressing story of early marriage and abuse.
The 36-year-old actress has not forgiven director John Duigan for sweeping her into an “unhealthy” relationship when he was 39 and she was just 16.
The ‘Crash’ star told Bang Media: “I was so young. I was separated from my parents filming ‘Flirting’ in Australia. I didn’t tell my parents about it but really young people who are vulnerable have to be looked out for.
“How can it possibly be right to start a serious relationship with someone at that age when you are so much older?
“I don’t forgive him, but I do understand a bit more because I have had therapy. I have moved on and it feels like it happened a long time ago.”
Thandie – who has two daughters, Ripley, eight, and Nico, four, with director Ol Parker – says her troubled relationship with Duigan drove her to bulimia, something she is now keen to “leave behind”.
She explained: “When you don’t like yourself or the situation you are in, you do not do very nice things to yourself.
“I know lots of women suffer from eating disorders, so talking about it and saying there is no shame in it is good. But, on the other hand, I feel I want to leave it behind now. I want to reclaim a bit of me.”

All you crazies who are saying that Thandie is not Zimbabwean need to stop smoking what ever u r smoking and do some research. There is something called CITIZENSHIP AUTOMATICALLY BESTOWED ON A CHILD. Thandie Newton is the daughter of a Rhodesian (now Zimbabwean) mother from the Shona people and a British father. She lived in Zambia until political unrest caused her family to move back to the UK. She then lived in Cornwall in the southwest of Britain until the age of 11. At that time she enrolled in London’s Art Educational School, where she studied modern dance. However, a back injury forced her to quit dancing. This led to her auditioning for films and receiving her first role in John Duigan’s Flirting (1991). She then moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue acting and her then-boyfriend. However, her British accent limited the amount of work she was getting, and she returned to Britain, where she went to Cambridge University to study, eventually receiving a degree in anthropology. Between semesters, she continued her acting and became noticed and in-demand for future film roles.

#34 Oh dear care to elaborate when and what was this political unrest about in Zambia? This girl was born in Zambia to a Zimbabwean Nurse mother and a British lab technician working at University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka. They left Zambia for greener pastures in the UK …nothing else. For all I know she can call herself Zambian by conception/birth, Zimbabwean or British by genes! She’s lucky she can get herself a passport of convienience from any of the three countries!
