Teachers at Nkululeko High School, 20km outside Gweru, went to the headmaster’s house at night and allegedly severely assaulted him for withholding their incentives.
Tennyson Nhongo (50), Passable Mushayi (34) and Rolland Mahuni (27) who live at the school were yesterday arraigned before Gweru magistrate, Mr Meo Rubwe, facing charges of assaulting their head Mr Allan Benson.
They were not asked to plead to the charges and were remanded out of custody on their own cognisance to 27 July.The prosecutor, Mr Michael Mhene, told the court that on the night of 27 March, the three teachers went to Mr Benson’s residence and accused him of refusing to pay their incentives.
Mr Mhene said the trio found the headmaster’s wife and threatened to beat her up for allegedly conniving with her husband to divert their incentives to their own use.
The court heard that while they were at the house, Mr Benson arrived from Gweru driving a school truck.Mr Mhene said the three men confronted Mr Benson demanding their incentives.
He said when Mr Benson tried to give an explanation, the three men allegedly started beating him with fists and booted feet.
Mr Mhene said the school security guards came to the head’s rescue.
The court heard that when the security guards arrived at the scene, the three men were in the process of deflating the truck’s tyres.
Nhongo and his accomplices also accused Mr Benson of using the truck on his errands while abusing their money for incentives.
A report was made to the police about the incident, leading to the arrest of the three men.
