Two policemen stationed in Beitbridge were on Tuesday slapped with one year prison terms each for beating up a pregnant woman they suspected of being a commercial sex worker until she miscarried.
Collen Chinounye (22) and Kudakwashe Manatsa (21) had denied the assault charge before Beitbridge magistrate Mr Tavengwa Sangster but were convicted on the back of overwhelming evidence.
Mr Sangster sentenced the duo to two years in jail each but set aside one year for three years on condition that they do not commit a similar offence within that period.
Charges against them arose on December 16 last year when they were on patrol along with four other members of the police force.
They raided an illegal booking house in Dulibadzimu suburb and arrested the complainant along with two other ladies they suspected of being prostitutes.
The duo force-marched the women outside the booking house and ordered them to lie face-down before assaulting them.— Beitbridge Bureau.
