A Chitungwiza woman who had a habit of leaving her seven-year-old stepson without proper care while she enjoyed herself at a local nightclub has been remanded in custody on charges of child abuse.
Chitungwiza magistrate Mrs Patience Ururu Madondo remanded Tariro Gwara (20) who pleaded not guilty to the charges last week, in custody to January 7 for trial.
Mrs Madondo placed the boy and Gwara’s two other children in the care of the Chitungwiza District social welfare officer.
The seven-year-old boy who testified in court said on several occasions he was left without food while Gwara slept at the beerhall.
He told the court that Gwara forced him to wash clothes including underwear for the four-year child and changing nappies of the two-year old girl.
He told the court that Gwara assaulted him several times.
Chitungwiza District social welfare officer Mrs Susan Ngane who was also called by the magistrate to explain how the children would survive if the court decides to throw Gwara in jail, told the court that the mother was irresponsible and the children would be taken to Maunganidze Kindhearted Home temporarily while a permanent home was being sought.
Prosecutor Miss Concellia Maheya alleges that On December 1 this year, Gwara got a room to rent at Ability Sithole’s house with her three children aged seven, four and two.
The court alleges that Sithole noted that Gwara went to nightclubs everyday around 1700 hours, leaving the children alone without food.
The children were not bathed most of the time, the court heard.
The court also heard that the stepson who was left in charge was responsible among other duties for changing nappies for the two-year-old girl.
On December 16, Sithole also noticed that the children were sick and advised Gwara to take them to hospital but was warned not to interfere with her life.
Sithole then reported the matter to the police leading to Gwara’s arrest.

This writer must go back to school and learn how to write news. Central to this story is the father of this boy. The mention of the father was important in this story yet the writer did not mention anything about the father. Does he live alone, with another woman or is out of the country?

Ndosaka ichinzi ZimGossip they obviously do not have qualified journalists who think logically. I also wondered why there is no mention of a father but then again serves us right for reading tabloids…. Anyway back to the issue, why were the children in the stepmom’s custody anyway did the mother die??? If so it should teach us women to make provisions for our children coz if we are not careful stepmother can really abuse children take it from me I was raised by one EVIL one….
