TWO Old Pumula-bound commuter omnibus crews were involved in a fist- fight over two passengers.Witnesses said the incident occurred on last week.
According to witnesses the row began when a white kombi noticed competition coming from a Pumula South kombi.“The driver was parked at the terminus and all of a sudden the vehicle took off abruptly heading to town.
The other kombi was following closely in an effort to catch up with the other kombi,” said a passenger who was on board.
She said upon reaching a blind corner both drivers noticed two commuters approaching from a distance and the driver who was in front braked the vehicle instantly in order to grab the passengers who seemed in a hurry.
“The oncoming kombi smashed onto the back of the kombi that was in front. The two drivers got out of their vehicles blaming each other for the accident,” she said.
The driver was quoted saying: “Kanti uzamani ungibangisa abantu bami. Wena akumelanga utshove lapha ngoba uvela ePumula South, bekumele utshove khonangale. (What are you trying to do? This is not your route, you should be plying the Pumula South route).”
The witness said the driver who was hurling all sorts of insults was then punched in the face twice resulting in him seeking cover in his car.
“However, his assistant went on to attack the other driver using a wheel spanner but could not hit him as he was stopped by his counterpart.
He went on to calm the situation by dragging the assistant off the scene and persuaded him to let go,” she said.The driver of the white kombi is said to have driven off with his assistant swearing that he was going to revenge
